What Support Does Tommy’s Offer To Parents and Parents-To-Be? How Can You Get Involved?

Tommy’s is a charity that probably most parents have heard of but if you like me, you won’t be fully aware of the services they provide to parents and parents to be.  You might also want to know about their medical research into pregnancy complications such as stillbirth, miscarriage and premature birth.

So I asked Tommy’s to outline a little of their work for this post.

Tommy’s funds much-needed medical research into pregnancy complications – such as stillbirth, miscarriage, and premature birth – and provides free information for all parents-to-be on pregnancy health, so that more babies can be given the best chance of being born healthy.

The research they fund is vital, in order to ensure more women have happy and healthy pregnancies – despite the fact that 1 in 4 women in the UK will lose a baby during pregnancy or birth, traditionally little funding has been made available for medical research in to pregnancy complications. ·

Tommy’s has a freephone information line – Tommy’s PregnancyLine – staffed by midwives that anyone can call Monday-Friday, 9am-5pm. Their midwives focus on three specific areas:-

* providing emotional and bereavement counselling support for women who have suffered a pregnancy loss or complication

*   advice on how best to plan for a baby following a complication-

*   lifestyle advice for women most at risk of pregnancy health problems due to smoking, stress, poor diet and obesity.

To speak to a Tommy’s midwife, call 0800 0147 800 or email info@tommys.org ·         Tommy’s believe every pregnancy should have a happy ending, and by 2030 they want to halve the number of babies who die during pregnancy or birth.  www.tommys.org

I am a parent and although I moan all too often about the challenges, I would not be without the joys.  I am one of the lucky ones.  So I am getting behind Tommy’s and have selected them as the charity I will support from today with my #mums4good campaign.

I shop online usually just the general supermarket shop but also for presents and flowers on occasion.  In future, everytime I do this a percentage of what I spend will go to Tommy’s to help fund their work.  I won’t pay a single penny more for my goods.  In fact, I will be alerted to special offers that save me money by Give As You Live.  It is the retailers I spend with who will see that money goes to charity.

So I am asking you to click http://www.give.as/kateonthinice  and find out more.   Please sign up to support charity with a name and email address.  YOU have the key to unlocking money for Tommy’s every time you shop online no matter how often you do that.

Apparently, most people won’t click the link but I ask you as a parent to do what you can to increase the chances of others having that joy.

Do it today.

  1. I am so pleased you have chosen Tommy’s. I strongly believe Tommy’s research saved my life and my baby’s. When I got to hospital at 26 weeks and 6 days, the hospital I was in had no specialist centre or team and didn’t know what to do. They called the Tommy’s team in London at St Thomas hospital which is funded by Tommy’s, and got the latest advice. My son was born at 27 weeks and is a healthy 3 year old.

So thank you from the bottom of my heart

    And get shopping!
